ON THE ISSUES
ADDRESSING WHAT MATTERS
This pandemic has taken an enormous toll on our state, but with the right leadership I am confident we will be able to recover. I support increased funding for rapid testing, especially at our schools, which would help us keep the transmission rate low and allow the state to reopen safely. Additionally, we need to ensure this kind of disaster never catches us off guard again. State law must be amended to specifically address lessons learned from this pandemic.
I believe that healthcare should be accessible to everyone. Until the federal government agrees to take on improvements to the Affordable Care Act, I will support our state’s efforts to continue to expand HUSKY coverage and push for HUSKY to adopt a continuous coverage policy. I will also ensure that our state and municipal employees continue to have access to best-in-class insurance options.
Connecticut has been a leader in workforce training and development for years. I applaud the work done by state and local workforce investment boards and would work toward increasing their capacity for training in high-tech fields to attract new businesses. I would also vote to extend eviction and foreclosure protections for renters and homeowners until the state is fully open for business again.
As a farmer, I understand the important relationship between people and the land. Connecticut has one of the largest solar footprints in the nation and I will continue to encourage the adoption of renewable resources by extending net metering and supporting the CT Green Bank and incentives for municipal and private solar and wind generation.
I am committed to actively seeking out ways to reverse years of segregation and unequal treatment of Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other underrepresented groups in our communities. I support immigration and police reforms that keep both our law enforcement officers and members of the community safe. I unequivocally believe that black lives matter.
Taxes and the State Budget
Our tax burdens are some of the highest in the nation, and when combined disproportionately affect the middle class and those on fixed incomes. I will seek to reform Connecticut's tax system by advocating for a child tax credit to help working families and reform the property tax credit for homeowners.
